Throughout the novel, Taylor learns how to face her problems rather than run away from them along with the meaning of trust and true friendship. Taylor has a second chance to fix those relationships and make this summer a good one while knowing time is running out with her father. These problems include ex-best friend Lucy and first crush Henry. Taylor has not been to the Poconos since she was 12 years old and all of the problems she ran away from are still there. That set up the situation readers find in Morgan Matson’s Second Chance Summer. When 17-year-old Taylor Edwards finds out that her father has cancer and will be gone by the end of the summer, her family plans one last summer together at their old lake house in the Poconos.
